     writing a poem is actuallynot as hard as you think. The complaint that first come out is you have got no idea what you will write. Finding a subject matter seems to be the most difficult one. Whereas, there are a lot things that you can take as the subject matter of your poem such as love, farewell, death,regret,birthday,beauty, and nature. You can get the inspiration from your daily life. Juat choose one of them and get an insight of it,and write it down. How to read and get meaning of a poem

           There are a lot of tips suggested by some experts how to read poetry well,here are some of them. 

1. Read the poem one straight trought,with no particular expectation; read open mindedly. Let your self experience whatever you find,without worrying any large general and important ideas of the poem. Don’t dwell on a trouble some word-just push on. 

2. On the second reading, read for the exact sense of all words, if there are words you don’t understand, look them up in your dictionary. 

3. If you read the poem silently to yourself, sounds its words in your mind. Better still, read the poem aloud, or hear someone else reads it. You may discover meanings you didn’t perceive in it before. 

4. Paraphrase it. You put your own words what you understand the poem say, restating ideas that seem essential, coming out and starting what the poem may suggest. In doing this, you may work it thourg the whole poem, stanza by stanza, or line by line. 

5. Compare your prophase to the poem. Revise it if you find any irrelevance in it. What you have in the last revision-the time when you find there is no more irrelevance between your paraphrase and the poem- is a dependable interpretation.

Basic Elements

1. Form                                                                                                                                                         The basic elements of a poem are line and stanza. Further distinction must be made between a lone of poetry which pauses most naturally in the end of the line,usually with a completed clause or with a punctuation which signify an ending of sentence,and a line of poetry which runs on the past end of the line into the next one before pausing naturally. The former is called end-stopped,the latter is known as runs on the past end of the line into the next one before pausing naturally. The former is called end-stopped, the latter is known as run-on line.
2. Diction                                                                                                                                                 Diction or word choice is one of a poet’s greatest tools. By choosing the exact word,not merely something,a poet convinces and draws a reader into a poem. By diction a poet is able to achieve the great power of the combination of sound, sense and meaning.
3. Sound(Rhyme)                                                                                                                                                          Rhyme is the pattern of repetition of sound in a poem. Here are some examples: time and rhyme,slow and grow, fleet and street, buying and crying etc.
4. Sense (figure of speech)                                                                                                                  A poet often uses it to state truths that more literal language cannot communicate. Here are some common figures of speech                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
   

• Metaphor : the figure of speech which compares one thing to another directly. Usually a metaphor is created thourgh the uses of some forms of the verb “to be”Example: oh, my love is a red, red rose.       
• Smile calls an attention to the comparison thourgh the use of word “like” or “as”Example: she walks in beauty like the night                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
• Personification is the process assigning human characteristics to non human objects,abstraction or ideas.Example: the wind stood up and gave a shot                                                                   
• Hyperbola employs excessive exaggeration. It is often used to produce a dramatic effect.Example :  I’ve told him a thousand times 

 5.  Meaning (content and message)                                                                                                          When we talk about the meaning of a poem, we are talking primarily about the content of a poem, what it tells, and the significance of it (the message). There are some poems with easily-grabbed meaning and there are some others that are quite difficult to be understood.

           Poetry is written in lines, as verses; it has a fluid margin. When we want to write poems,we usually set out by writing verses,with one line-not to be confused with sentence-following another. Thus,no matter how wide the page,the line remains as we intended. Yet,we must keep in mind that writing a poem is not as simple as it may seem. It is not merely a process of compiling lines with flowery words. Writing a poem means exploring. It means not only recording what we think or feel but investigating those thought,digging deep,striving for a new shivery understanding. Therefore a poet must train his/her “eyes” to see what is unseen; to search for the particular, mot the general;to dive,not to swim. Parallel to that, the simplest way to get an insight of the unseen or the particular is to read(and reread) poems we like,the poems that give us a new understanding about a thing and encourage us to write our own.Elizabeth Bishop said,”Read a lot of poetry-all the time…. Read Campion, Hebert, Pope,Tennyson,Coleridge-anything at all almost that’s good, from the past-until you find out what you really like,by yourself. Even if you try imitate it exactly-it will come out quite differently…” In sum,to write a poem is not merely to express our feeling and/or thoughts in the way we want.
