Drama is a work of literature or
composition which delineates life and human activity by means of presenting
various actions and dialogues between a group of characters. Drama is designed
to be acted on the stage.Dramatic works differ from other
prose works in a number of other prose works in a number of other ways as well.
Unlike novels and short stories, plays do not usually have narrators to
tell the audiences what a character is
thinking or what happened in the past;the audience knows only what the
characters reveal. Drama develops primarily by means of dialogue. The plot and
the action of drama unfold on the stage
as the characters interact. Playwright employs various techniques to
compensate for the absence of a narrator. He/she may use monologues (extended
speeches by one character). A monologue
in which a character expresses private thoughts while alone on the stage
is called soliloquy. He / she can also use asides- brief comment by an actor
who addresses to the audience but not is heard by the others characters- to
reveal the thoughts of the speaker.
